Sloviansk TPP is likely to operate for another 40 years, according to Donbasenergo's prospects
07-12-2020

Oleksandr Miroshnichenko, Donbasenergo's Director for Logistics and Competitive Bidding and Acting Director for Investment Projects and Prospective Development, reported that the Cabinet of Ministers put the construction project of Sloviansk TPP Power Unit 6 in the top-priority investment projects for 2020-2023. This way the installed capacity of Sloviansk TPP will gain another 660 MW and the capacity shortage the region now faces will be covered. "The new power unit will generate electricity that is "green" and that complies with all European environmental standards. Indeed, the Sloviansk TPP celebrating its 65th anniversary last year will thus be able to operate for another 40 years", said O. Miroshnichenko.

The new power units, No. 6B and No. 6A, 330 MW each, will run flexibly in the 30-100% range of their rated capacity (40-100% if un-lit). According to the top manager of Donbasenergo, the power units previously reconstructed in Ukraine are now maneuvering in the 60%-100% range of their rated capacity. Those Ukrainian power units that lack reconstruction are reported to run in the 70-100% range.

Donbasenergo plans that the construction activities for Power Unit 6 will also deploy a circulating fluidized bed technology that will burn about 2 million tons of low-grade and low-energy G grade coal.

For reference: As of December 01, 2020, 60.86% holder of PJSC Donbasenergo is ENERGOINVEST HOLDING Private Joint Stock Company, 25% + 1 share are held by the state represented by the State Property Fund of Ukraine.

PJSC Donbasenergo unites two power plants: Sloviansk and Starobeshevo TPP (the latter has been located in the territory beyond the control of Ukraine since 2014). Since March 2017, due to the loss of control over the temporarily occupied Donetsk region, annual performance indicators of assets located there are not included in Donbasenergo consolidated records of accounts.

The total installed capacity of Sloviansk TPP is 880 MW.
